This tried and true recipe for parmesan crusted halibut is simply the best! Hands Down! Baked for just a few minutes then topped with the most amazing creamy parmesan topping then broiled until golden brown. Its so amazing in fact it will be your go to recipe forever.
A mild onion flavor in the cheesy sauce imparts the fish so delicately. It does not over power the flavor of the halibut at all and is sure to please your taste buds.
Halibut also known as the chicken of the sea is probably my most favorite type of fish. I was always trying to come up with new ways of cooking it besides frying it on the pan.
Searching the internet I happened upon a recipe similar to this one but it was not baked first and although I don’t like my fish over cooked I don’t like it under cooked either. Baking for a few minutes prior to broiling will ensure your halibut is perfectly cooked and not dry.
My husbands uncle and his partner were visiting a few weeks ago and I prepared this dish for them. Shawn admitted that he thought it might be dry, however he was pleasantly surprised at how moist and delicious it really was. So much so, they went out to buy some halibut the very next day!
I am fortunate enough living around the bay that I have a friend whose wife detests fish and so he gifts it to me. I can’t believe I get it for free especially since its about $25 for a small portion at our local grocery store.
I made a couple of video tutorials for this recipe; one to show how the sauce is made and one taste test after it was done. Just so you could see the finished product. Its Truly the Best! Watch me make it here don’t forget to like and subscribe:
How easy was that? If you don’t have Epicure 3 onion you can easily substitute chives or fresh spring onions. I just wouldn’t use yellow or red or other onions because the might overpower the beautiful flavor of the halibut.
Here’s a video of the final product along with a taste test you can tell by my expression how delicious this parmesan crusted halibut recipe truly is:
Yummy yummy! In order to make this delicious tried and true recipe you will need the following:
- 2/3 cup real grated parmesan cheese
- 3 tablespoons of softened real butter
- 3 tablespoons real mayo
- the juice of 1/2 a real lemon (small)
- 6 drops of Franks red hot sauce
- 1 & 1/2 – 2 tablespoons Epicure 3 onion or finely chopped spring onion or chives chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 375 degrees . Line a baking sheet with foil shiny side down and pace 2-3 halibut steaks on top.
Lightly season with salt and pepper if desired. Place in preheated oven and bake for 13-15 minutes until it flakes lightly with a fork.
Remove from oven and turn on your broiler. Next, mix all sauce ingredients together. You’ll get a nice thick paste. Spread this evenly over each piece of fish in a nice thick layer.
Return to your oven and broil for just a few minutes until it looks nice bubbly and golden. Watch this step as it happens very quickly enjoy!
