Adventure and Crystals: Discover Newfoundland’s Best Kept Secret

Crystals in the cave

Newfoundland, known for it’s beauty and rock formations has to be on your bucket list. Nestled in a secret hideaway in beautiful Grates Cove you will find an amazing crystal cave.

Grates Cove is the most northerly community on the Avalon Peninsula. It’s located at the very tip of the Bay de Verde Peninsula in Newfoundland Canada.

According to Wikipedia, It was called the Grates by John Guy in 1612.

It also mentions that it was first settled a very long time ago. In 1794 five families arrived in Grates Cove, four from Lower Island Cove and one family from Old Perlican.

It has since grown in beauty and in popularity. There are also many more residents today in beautiful Grates Cove.

Grates cove studios is also located there. A place where you can experience art, cuisine along with a unique seaweed bath. It is a wonderful little community. A Must see!

Frank Hyde

This is Frank , my husband‘s cousin. He is a wonderful soul who takes me on so many adventures around the bay. He Rocks and has taught me so much.

This adventure has to be one of my absolute favorites, as I do love crystals especially quartz. They are very powerful and hold a great deal of energy amplifying the energy of all other crystals.

To begin this epic adventure, we started off on a small hike with breath taking views. We went as a group and traveled down over a dangerous embankment in order to reach the crystal cave. Pictures below.

My sister, Lorraine, and uncle Shawn

The scenery was breath taking. Green, rugged and surrounded by the ocean, as peaceful as it comes.

Look down way down
The view before we reached the cave

You will want to be sure to wear good footwear. It can be quite slippery especially if we have some morning dew or wet grass. A dangerous hike, totally worth the effort.

Taking in the view

Once we arrived to the cave, I didn’t know where to look. We were surrounded by beauty both from inside the cave and out. To my amazement, you can easily dig for crystals. They were plentiful and many quite large.

You know, it was once said: Wherever you find crystal, there is sure to be gold not far behind. For me, the gold was in the view truly amazing and spectacular.

The view

It wasn’t long before we found crystals everywhere. I do believe they are quartz the same ones they use in the timex watch.

Amazing

The following photos are of Frank, uncle Sean, my sister and I exploring the cave. It was so cool. I was awe struck!

Our adventure wasn’t over just yet! Frank, being the awesome fellow that he is, took us fishing for cod. Truly an amazing experience! We even caught a shark. Sometimes the unplanned adventures are the best hands down!

Needless to say we had a full day filled with adventure. Fish and codfish galore. An amazing view the entire day and good company to boot as we say here in Newfoundland!

I can’t possibly leave you without another delicious recipe. I will share a link to my latest post Deep fried Cod. I sure hope you get to go on an epic adventure like this one. Truly blessed to have the best friends and family.

Hi there and thank you. It was a pretty amazing day all around and yes, the food was amazing. I had the best Caesar I ever had drink I mean. I don’t have any recipes regarding screech other than they do make a screech cake which I have had. It’s kind of like a poundcake. I can try and get a recipe for you if you like.
