The Best Classic Chili Recipe

This tried and true recipe for classic home style chili is the absolute best. Its very hearty and starts with the finest ingredients. This, combined with a generous sprinkle of love creates a dish that the entire family will surely enjoy. Ground beef, diced tomatoes, kidney beans, green pepper, cumin, garlic, spicy Italian sausage and a gorgeous tomato sauce will have the entire family coming back for more.

This Classic chili recipe is the best I have tried and we have tried numerous recipes over the years. Its a basic recipe which allows you to get creative & make it your own. You can add dark stout beer, corn, sweet rainbow peppers, toasted cumin seeds the possibilities are endless. Get your creative juices flowing, there are no mistakes in the kitchen, so don’t be afraid to try a new ingredient, its delicious every single time even if you make it just the way I do.

I sure hope you enjoyed that video as you can see, not only is it the best chili recipe its pretty easy too. In order to make this tried and true chili recipe you will need the following:

Ingredients:

  • 4-5 slices of bacon
  • 2-3 cloves of minced garlic
  • 1 pkg (5-6) hot italian sausage ( you can omit this or use mild)
  • 2 lbs lean ground beef
  • 2 cans of red kidney beans
  • 2 cans of tomato sauce
  • 1 can of tomato paste plus 1/4 tube Mutti tomato paste ( you can use all Mutti or 2 small cans)
  • 1 can tomato soup
  • 2 yellow onions diced
  • 1 can of diced tomatoes
  • 1 green pepper diced
  • 1 can of mushrooms pieces and stems
  • 2 or more Tablespoons of chili powder ( adjust to your taste)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • optional 2 stalks of celery chopped you can also fry your beef with celery salt

How to make classic home style chili:

Fry your italian sausage remove and slice

Fry your ground beef remove from pan and drain grease

Fry bacon remove and crumble

Saute onion in bacon grease until soft and translucent

Next, In a large pot add a couple tablespoons of olive oil sauté garlic and peppers add onions and beans just to soften a little

Add tomatoes, tomato sauce, paste, beef, sausage, mushrooms and celery if desired.

Add chili powder. Simmer for a few hours and taste if desired add more chili spice, cumin and or 1/2 tablespoon of dark brown sugar.
